Aussies baffled by sign at train station – and no one can work out what it means

Sydney commuters have expressed confusion over a ‘strange’ poster displayed at Green Square train station, with many saying they have no idea what it means.

The poster shows various types of tropical fish swimming in a coral reef alongside the three-word slogan: ‘Trains. They help.’

A puzzled Sydneysider shared a photo of the ad on Reddit, asking other train passengers: ‘What does this mean?’

Many Reddit users said they had no idea what it meant, while others had an idea of what it was trying to convey but felt the message was unclear.

However, a handful of Green Square regulars said the poster’s meaning was clear to them and they didn’t understand what all the fuss was about.

“Trains (are) better for the planet, therefore better for marine life,” one Redditor wrote in the most-voted answer to the question.

While this correct response settled the argument, other commuters were not ready to back down and insisted that the poster was too vague.

“Nice idea, terrible copywriting,” one person wrote.

Another made light of the poster’s ambiguous meaning, joking: ‘Pisces find trains handy for their daily commute.’

“When the train finally arrives, you’ll be crammed like a sardine in a can,” another Reddit user added.

A similar joke read: ‘Fish rides a train every day. They are grateful and have sponsored a poster.’
