Hoping to reverse the outcome of their last appearance four years ago, the San Francisco 49ers landed in Las Vegas on Sunday for Super Bowl LVIII.

The 49ers will again play the NFL’s championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs, after losing 31-20 to Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co. in February 2020.

Some of San Francisco’s integral players were part of that loss, including Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Kyle Juszczyk.

The team drafted Brock Purdy and has since also traded for Christian McCaffrey and Chase Young.

Back in San Francisco, hundreds of fans turned out in the pouring rain to watch the team bus depart for the airport.

Purdy was one of the first representatives of the 49ers on the other side of the team plane and did not acknowledge any of the cameras present on his walk to one of the team buses.

Kittle was the second member of the 49ers to get off the team plane and did stop to talk to the team’s camera crew before getting on a bus.

The Chiefs arrived earlier Sunday as not only the winner of the last Super Bowl game between the teams, but the defending NFL champions.

It’s been almost 20 years since a team last retained the Vince Lombardi Trophy, with the 2005 New England Patriots the last back-to-back champions on record – but Kansas City has the chance to change that next Sunday.

After winning last season’s showpiece, Andy Reid’s team is now set to lock horns with NFC champions San Francisco at Super Bowl LVIII, where they will aim to get their hands on the NFL’s grand prize for at least to last another year.

And before their quest for history, the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce made their big arrivals in Vegas exactly one week before their battle with the Niners.

Kelce is expected to be cheered on at Allegiant Stadium by girlfriend Taylor Swift, who appears to be wrapping up the latest leg of her Eras Tour in Tokyo, making the nearly 9,000-mile trip to Sin City.

Swift has attended a number of her boyfriend’s Chiefs games since their romance began last summer, with the pop star even making it onto the field after last weekend’s Conference Championship win over the Ravens in Baltimore.

San Francisco has lost its last two Super Bowl appearances, falling to the Ravens in 2013.

The 49ers haven’t won a Super Bowl since the 1994 season, despite being one of the NFL’s most decorated teams.
