A man’s lifeless body has been found on a major NSW highway near the Queensland border.

The body was found on the M1 Pacific Motorway near Tweed Valley Way in Chinderah, about 10 km south of Coolangatta in Queensland, at around 05:30 on Monday.

“The man is yet to be formally identified,” NSW Police said.

All southbound lanes of the M1 Pacific Motorway are closed, with motorists told to divert via Tweed Valley Way.

“Allow extra travel time in the area,” LiveTraffic NSW said.

The police established a crime scene and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
