Killer Mike’s son Mikael ‘Pony Boy’ Render, 21, receiving kidney transplant after three years of waiting – following father’s citizens arrest at the Grammys
After three years of waiting, Killer Mike’s son Mikael ‘Pony Boy’ Render is now receiving a kidney transplant.
TMZ reports the Grammy-winning rapper is with his son (21) today, while Mikael undergoes surgery.
Mikael suffers from kidney disease and has been waiting for a transplant for three years.
It comes after his father received three Grammys before being taken away from the awards show in handcuffs following a ‘physical altercation’.
Mike – born Michael Santiago Render – recently spoke about his son’s kidney disease and how he was recently moved up the waiting list for a new organ.

The rapper reflected on the symptoms his son – who is also a rapper and musician – exhibited before he was finally diagnosed.
“When I look back on it, there were clear signs when he said his feet hurt, but he swelled up once and we didn’t understand what was going on,” he said during an interview with Graham Bensinger back in November 2023.
“It was his kidneys starting to fail and his body retaining fluid,” he continued.
Mike said he had received the good news about the waiting list a few weeks earlier and said the operation would mean his son would finally be able to live a ‘full life’.
“I got a call a few weeks ago that he had bumped into the kidney transplant list, that my child would have an opportunity to live a full life as a young man,” he said.
“I just want my child to get that kidney and be as free as a bird,” he also said.
It comes less than 24 hours after Killer Mike, known for his work as a member of the rap duo Run The Jewels, won the Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for his solo song ‘Scientists & Engineers ‘ and the Best Rap Album for Michael.
However, controversy erupted after his wins – he was taken away from the awards show in handcuffs after a ‘physical altercation’.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department told DailyMail.com that a man was being questioned, but they could not confirm his identity. TMZ reported he was booked for battery on a citizen’s arrest.
“At 4:00 p.m., an adult male was arrested for a physical altercation that took place in the arena,” the spokesperson said, explaining that the ‘altercation’ took place moments before the person was arrested. TMZ reported that Killer Mike wrestled with a security guard.
“Right now the preliminary investigation is: he’s being investigated for battery,” the spokesperson said.
“He will not be identified until he is arrested and charged, if at all.”
The LAPD finally confirmed via X that Killer Mike was booked for misdemeanor battery and “in the process of being released.”
Referring to police records, Entertainment Weekly reported that the rapper was arrested at 3:20 PM PT and booked at 7:30 PM PT. He was finally released a little over an hour later.
Video obtained by TMZ shows the rapper apparently getting into an argument with security guards while walking outside in the rain – with someone carrying an umbrella over his head.

The 48-year-old rapper, star of Run The Jewels, is pictured with his three Grammys on Sunday night, moments before he was arrested.
TMZ reported that, moments before the clip was filmed, Killer Mike knocked down a security guard while trying to leave.
The security guard allegedly didn’t get out of Killer Mike’s way fast enough, according to TMZ. The video obtained by the outlet appears to show what allegedly happened right after the altercation.
In the footage, the rapper appears to be trying to get past the security team, and security appears to be trying to block him. There was apparently a heated dispute, and the rapper shoved a security guard on the shoulder as he tried to walk around him.
As the rapper was brought back to the arena for questioning, someone yelled, ‘Free Mike!’
The rapper has yet to comment on the arrest.
Killer Mike is known for his political activism. He has been a vocal supporter of Bernie Sanders, and has endorsed Democratic senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock for his home state of Georgia.
Before he was handcuffed, the Atlanta-born star reminisced backstage about his path to Grammy stardom.
“The only thing that limits your age is not being honest about your age or what you do,” he told the assembled media.
‘At the age of 20 I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer.
‘At 40 I started to live with the regrets and the things I did.
‘At 45 I started rapping about it.
“At 48, I stand here as a man full of empathy and sympathy for the things I did.”
