Michail Antonio believes Neal Maupay’s antics could come back to bite him, claiming ‘he’s probably the most disliked person on the field’… after the Brentford forward’s heated spats with Kyle Walker and James Maddison

Michail Antonio has claimed that Neal Maupay’s trolling could come back to bite him one day after the forward recently clashed with James Maddison and Kyle Walker.

Maupay first caused controversy when he head-butted the Tottenham midfielder after mimicking his darts celebration during Brentford’s 3-2 defeat by Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The Frenchman was also involved in a heated row with Kyle Walker during their game against Man City on Monday night, with a lip reader claiming Maupay ‘whispered about his opponent’s children’. Walker allegedly responded by threatening to ‘beat his opponent out’.

While many have given their opinion on Maupay’s antics, with the Bees forward now coined one of the ‘biggest wind-up traders in football’, Antonio gave his take on the recent antics, claiming that Maupay has a reputation acquired that he annoys his opponents.

“He’s probably the most unpleasant person on the pitch,” the West Ham forward said on BBC 5 Live Sport’s podcast ‘The Players Channel’.

‘He literally goes out on the field to rub people the wrong way. And he is now famous for it.

“There’s going to be a day where somebody’s not going to have it and at halftime or at the end of the game it’s going to be a problem!”

Antonio was joined on the podcast by Fulham’s Tom Cairney who echoed his sentiment but added that Maupay had perfected his craft.

Cairney said: ‘It’s an art. It is a skill. Because before the game the manager will be like “don’t let him annoy you, don’t get yellow silly yellow cards.”

‘He’s amazing. And as you said, Kyle Walker was close to losing his mind last night.’

As Maupay mimicked Maddison’s celebrations during their game against Tottenham, it was the Spurs star who had the last laugh to secure victory.

He appeared to share a few words with his opponent on the pitch, and after the game Maddison revealed to TNT Sports what he said as he dug into the Bees forward.

“I just told him he probably hasn’t scored enough goals of his own in the last few years to have his own celebration so he should copy mine,” he said.

“Long story short, but it ended well for us anyway.”

The Frenchman, who has six goals in 21 games for both Everton and Brentford this season, posted an image on social media of him mimicking Maddison’s quiver after the match.

He humorously captioned the post: ‘Got a little early with that one.’

Maddison posted a similar image of Maupay on his Instagram saying “A short story…COYS” to which Maupay replied: “Rent free” with several “kiss emojis”.

However, his spat with Walker was much more heated, with Mail Sport’s Chris Sutton, who called his behavior ‘an embarrassment’ on ‘It’s All Kicking Off’.

“It just seems kind of weird to me, because there are levels, aren’t there?” Sutton said. ‘That’s what I can’t quite work out about him.

“When you hand it out to players who are, frankly, miles better than you, I think it’s a very strange mindset. I would think just keep your mouth shut, stay under the radar.

“You want to be competitive, you can be physical, whatever, but if you’re sending comments to Kyle Walker, I don’t understand that in any way, shape or form, he should be really ashamed.”

He added: ‘Thomas Frank, decent guy, I don’t know, maybe he says behind closed doors keep doing it, but he can’t like it.’
