Queenslander wins $200million Powerball prize: ‘What a way to kick off 2024!’

Officials from The Lott are looking for the second division one winner in last night’s $200 million record-breaking Powerball drawing.

The unregistered Queensland player scooped an incredible $100 million prize and became the equal second biggest lottery winner in Australian history, but may not have discovered their luck just yet.

Lott spokeswoman Anna Hobdell said she was eagerly awaiting the moment the second Powerball winner discovered their prize.

“What a way to kick off 2024!” she said.

Across Australia there were two division one winning entries in Powerball draw 1446 – one each in Queensland and New South Wales.

A mother who won half of last night’s $200 million jackpot plans to quit her job immediately and travel the world.

The woman and her husband, from SIngleton in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley, had their lives turned ‘upside down’ on Thursday night after they checked their ticket and saw that all their numbers matched the record $200 million draw.

The Singleton couple picked up a phone call from The Lott on the first ring in pure excitement after winning the big prize.

“That’s a lot of money, a lot of money to gauge,” the woman told The Lott official.

“I mean you joke about winning, but never expect it to happen to you.

‘My partner is here with me now, he is a bit shocked. He loves his job, so I don’t know if he’s going to retire.’

She said that while her partner may continue to work, she would ‘absolutely’ retire early.

While the couple will take the opportunity to celebrate the life-changing win over the weekend and travel the world, they are also making sure to support their children.

“It’s going to help our kids tremendously,” she said.
