The Bad Blood hitmaker, who took the stage at the Tokyo Dome this week for her first of four shows in a row, announced her new record, The Tortured Poets Department, during her Grammys speech on Sunday.

While in Tokyo – where she nearly fell off a chair during a steamy performance – she told fans: ‘Everybody’s like, “Why do you make so many albums?” I’m like, “Man, because I love it! I love it so much!”‘

“I’m having fun, leave me alone!” Swift — who faced backlash for seemingly ignoring Celine Dion at the Grammys — added.

The star also revealed that work on the new record began right after she finished the last album Midnights in 2022.

“I’ve been working on Tortured Poets since right after I submitted Midnights.”

‘You turn in an album months in advance so you can make vinyl, which is the best. So, I started working immediately after that and I’ve been working on it for about two years.’

She also shared that if she doesn’t win a Grammy on Sunday, she plans to announce the new album at the first Tokyo concert.

“I thought ‘If I’m lucky enough to get a Grammy … I’m just going to do it … My backup plan was I was going to do it tonight in Tokyo.’

“I kept working on it during the US tour, and when it was perfect in my opinion, when it was good enough for you, I finished it,” she continued.

“I’m so, so excited that you’ll be able to hear it soon. Soon we’ll experience it together, and I’m just like, I’m over the moon that you guys care about my music. It still blows my mind.’

‘I love doing it. I know I keep saying it, but it’s because it’s true.’

The section for tortured poets will appear on April 19.

Her last album Midnights was released in 2022, marking her tenth original studio album.
