Richard Sanchez, 60, was only a few blocks away from his Denver home when he was killed Jan. 27 after reportedly getting into an argument with a teenager, according to Fox 31.

He was shot at the intersection of South Federal Boulevard and West Mississippi Avenue around 6:40 p.m., but his family only learned he had died after they tried to file a missing person report days later.

Sanchez was rushed to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead. Another person was injured in the incident and treated at the scene, but did not need to go to hospital.

Sanchez allegedly got into the dispute with the teenager over complaints that his leg was blocking the hallway.

“At this stage of the investigation it appears that there was a verbal exchange between the suspect and victim about the victim’s leg blocking the aisle on the bus, and the suspect then shot the victim,” a police spokesman said. .

The victim’s family was not told he had been killed until they went to the police on Monday to file a missing person report.

“It feels unreal,” said Sanchez’s grandson Joseph Chavez. ‘He was always happy. He was a very happy guy.
