Travis Kelce ‘flipped a few things over’ and ‘set the fire on everybody’ with a passionate speech at halftime, reveals Mecole Hardman, after the Chiefs sparked second-half comeback to clinch overtime Super Bowl win
Wide receiver Mecole Hardman revealed that Travis Kelce gave the team an impassioned speech during the Super Bowl halftime show as he “turned some things around” in Kansas City’s second-half comeback and overtime victory over the 49ers too awake
Hardman, who had the game-winning touchdown with just three seconds left on the clock in Sunday’s game, recalled Kelce challenging his teammates to play better as a unit in the second half with Kansas City trailing 10-3 after the first two quarters in Las Vegas.
Speaking to CBS barely 24 hours after winning his third Super Bowl, Hardman said: ‘It’s been a very long layoff. However, Trav’ set the fire on everyone, certainly came with an impassioned speech at halftime. You know, as Trav’ does, he turned some things around…
‘But he certainly had a good speech for us. It’s just getting everyone going and it definitely added fuel to the fire and we just did better in that second half than we did in the first half.’
When asked about his postgame exchange with Kelce and his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, who he interacted with on the Allegiant Stadium field after his game reception, Hardman said that he and Kelce “just had a moment has’.

The 25-year-old wideout said that Travis Kelce brought him and his teammates together to win the game
“To say how much we appreciate each other,” the 25-year-old added. ‘And of course Taylor was there too. She basically just said congratulations. It was definitely a good moment there.’
Hardman, whose partner gave birth to their first child around last year’s Super Bowl game, which the Chiefs won against the Philadelphia Eagles, also revealed that Tuesday, February 13, is his son’s first birthday.
He was named after his father and ancestors as, Mecole Hardman III.
Hardman was later congratulated by Taylor Swift – Kelce’s girlfriend – for his game-winning TD
Hardman and Kelce reportedly have a close relationship, dating back to 2019 when the Chiefs drafted the former.
“Yeah, uhm … actually we have another one coming up as well which should be in May,” he said, also reflecting on his time playing on the New York Jets earlier this season before returned to the Chiefs, which he played for three seasons (2019-2022).
‘I have a daughter coming in May. So, yeah, it was a roller coaster you know coming to New York, trying to get to a new place and then it not working out and having to come back to KC to get a new place.
“It’s been an up and down roller coaster, but I wouldn’t have it any other way — definitely winning the Super Bowl and getting a chance to actually come back, so it’s definitely been a good ride.”
Hardman will be a free agent this offseason, with many expecting a contract renewal offer from the Chiefs.
